Pdf Summary
In 2019, the journal CHEST celebrated its achievements and outlined future plans under the leadership of Dr. Richard S. Irwin, who would hand over the Editor in Chief role to Dr. Peter J. Mazzone in July. CHEST experienced exceptional success over the past year, achieving its highest impact factor of 7.652 and gaining traction as one of the foremost journals in respiratory and critical care medicine. This was complemented by Kantar Media’s recognition of CHEST as the most preferred source of information among pulmonologists.

The journal introduced the "Better With Ultrasound" series to guide clinicians in using point-of-care ultrasonography, and expanded its digital presence through social media platforms and new multimedia, spearheaded by a newly formed Web and Multimedia team. This team, led by Dr. Christopher L. Carroll, launched innovative projects such as visual abstracts to make research more digestible and accessible.

The publication of five updated guidelines throughout the year reflected CHEST’s commitment to providing clinically relevant information. In line with its focus on scientific accuracy, the journal emphasized the importance of registering and transparently updating clinical trials and systematic reviews to avoid scientific misconduct.

Furthermore, CHEST saw significant growth in its online presence, with a rise in full-text article views and downloads, and expanded its digital content offerings with interactive and audiovisual formats. The journal also addressed issues related to copyright violations and encouraged appropriate sharing practices.

As Dr. Irwin prepared to step down, the journal reaffirmed its dedication to innovation and maintaining its prestigious status under the upcoming leadership of Dr. Mazzone. It thanked its editors, reviewers, and readers for their continued support and contributions to its legacy of excellence.
