Pdf Summary
The CHEST journal editorial board, led by Peter J. Mazzone, MD, MPH, FCCP, reflects on a transformative year marked by significant public health challenges. With a vision to make CHEST the primary source of clinically relevant research for pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine, they have focused on three main goals: fostering high-quality research submissions, enhancing the clinical usability of evidence-driven reviews, and increasing both access and interest in journal content.

Efforts to improve the contributor experience under Deputy Editor Susan Murin include establishing Publons credit for board members, launching a quarterly newsletter, and enhancing communication and submission processes. Plans for the future include awarding Continuing Medical Education credits and maintaining better connectivity among contributors.

Deputy Editor Darcy Marciniuk emphasizes outreach, aiming to establish connections with smaller societies and journals, thereby widening the journal’s audience and attracting high-caliber submissions. Initiatives such as fast-tracking promising abstracts and translating educational materials aim to streamline the publication process.

The Web and Multimedia team, headed by Deputy Editor Chris Carroll, has enhanced the journal's digital presence through visual abstracts, podcasts, and a new journal club. Upcoming expansions may include video features and a stronger social media presence.

CHEST has nine specialized content areas, each led by associate editors and informed by cross-disciplinary collaboration. A new section, Humanities in CHEST Medicine, led by Fabien Maldonado, will explore engaging, practice-related humanities topics.

The publishing team, including Hilary Petersen and statistical editor Mike Kattan, has played a critical role in supporting these initiatives, ensuring the journal remains innovative and impactful. As CHEST continues to evolve, Mazzone invites feedback to maintain high-quality, significant content.
