Pdf Summary
The DissolVE-2 study, a nationwide, multicenter cross-sectional analysis, was conducted to investigate venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk and prophylaxis among Chinese medical and surgical inpatients, relying on current American College of Chest Physicians guidelines. It evaluated 13,609 patients from 60 urban tertiary hospitals across China from March to September 2016. The study used the Padua Prediction Scoring for medical patients and the Caprini Risk Assessment for surgical patients to assess risk. It was found that surgical inpatients had a higher VTE risk, with 53.4% at high risk compared to 36.6% of medical inpatients. Major surgery and acute infection were key risk factors. Despite the risks, VTE prophylaxis rates were low; only 14.3% of patients received any prophylaxis and 10.3% received CHEST guideline-compliant prophylaxis. The study highlighted significant discrepancies between guidelines and clinical practice, calling attention to the need for improved VTE risk management and adherence to prophylaxis protocols in China. The study outcomes aim to enhance medical education and policy adjustments to bridge these gaps.
